On the dock …by the water …listening to the songs the birds are singing …the wind blowing gently through the trees and across the water.
“It’s coming!” That’s what the wind seems to be saying …coming …anticipation …new mercies.
Sunlight is dancing along the ripples of water created by the wind as if in Divine orchestration of wind, song, sunshine, and water–all created by the Maker of Heaven and Earth. All doing exactly what they were made to do. No striving. No competition. No jealous ambition. Each working in sync with their fellow creation.
A swimmer allows herself to be held by the water and moves in graceful motion down the middle of the lake using the capacity the Creator gave her to work with His creation for pleasure, exercise and wonder — a mix of harnessing the power and surrendering to its ability to hold her.
There’s a toddler crying in the house above. Probably a time out. And what seems like an interruption is another beautiful reminder of the gift of children …the gift of the ability to cry and feel frustration … emotions … the human struggle against the disciplines of growing up.
Life is beautiful when you see it this way.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
Another morning…
The water is incredibly still. In the stillness, it’s able to reflect–in perfect upside-down image — the landscape above down to every little detail. Only slight ripples reveal the difference between the real and the reflection.
The upside-down is reflecting the upward Kingdom …the one pointing toward the heavens …the unshakable …the one made by the Father.
No wonder I seem drawn to the water. Life comes into focus. Jesus gives peace. And I think the Spirit must still hover over the surface of the water.
He calmed the storm to a whisper
and stilled the waves.
What a blessing was that stillness
as he brought them safely into harbor!
