diligent or desperate

diligent or desperate

My friend, Sammie,  responded to a video I posted on Facebook on this rainy Monday morning.

She said, ” I looked up the word “diligent” & found your picture!!” (emoji, emoji, emoji )

Immediately I thought if being diligent is a cousin to desperate, then desperate is what I really am.

I’m desperate to have a little talk with Jesus and see His glory and wonder in creation– even through the endless rainy days we’ve had in Alabama this winter. I’m desperate to walk out my frustrations with people and situations, desperate to get rid of this second belly I’ve developed.

So I mixed up some Arbonne Digestion Plus from my niece, Angela, downed some healthy vitamins and minerals and took off walking it out the best way I knew how.

Putting up my umbrella this morning and going for a walk– even though it was raining–proved to be symbolic to me.

You see, a few things seemed to fall down out of the sky on me that were frustrating, painful, and a little bit annoying. The mere act of pushing that button and raising my umbrella became an act of sheer determination to say, “Not today, Satan!” And with a bit of a ‘tude, as we call it down here, I determined… Not gonna let rainy days and Mondays get me down …not gonna let frustrations or cloudy days stop me from doing what God has called me to do …not gonna let setbacks and sadness dampen my day.

There may be holes in my shoes and my socks may be soaked (at least one), but I’m going to soak in my Father’s presence and walk on with feet that spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.

I’m going to give it all to God and let my Father take care of those things that I simply cannot control and were never supposed to, for that matter. I’m not going to try to fix people or manipulate situations into picture-perfect frame.

Today, I’m going to raise my umbrella and stand on the word of God and walk it out with Jesus once again– knowing that “He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

I’m going to look for His perspective and find things written in the wonder of creation that He wants me to see and know. I’m going to consider this Showers of Blessings and hold on to these words my sister shared, ” Ezekiel 34:26 “….and I will cause the shower to come down…; THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.” Look up, Sister….ONLY GOD can send a shower!! ONLY GOD!!”

And yes, I’m going to thank God that my desperation has led me to be diligent to seek Him and know Him and find that He is all I really need.

My kids tease me sometimes that my definition of a situation going well is often described as, "It was 'life-giving' " -- meaning, it may have had some conflicts or uneasy moments or stress but all in all , something about it breathed life into the situation and the people involved...something of the heart was moved in a good direction. I'm all about LIFE ... life with my husband, life with 4 adult children, their spouses and 8 grandchildren (to date, that is :), life in our home and life in a wild adventure we tend to label "ministry". In reality , all of these categories mesh together to make up the "organic me". Relational , redeeming and restoring are some of my favorite words and they give life to my soul as I walk it all out with Jesus Christ, the Giver of all life. Profile Photo by: Melody Martin
