I Have No Greater Joy

I Have No Greater Joy

The Apostle John already said it and I say a hearty “Amen” …”So be it”!  I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. 3 John 4  My husband, Roger, and I have been graced beyond measure with 4 children and one watching over us from heaven’s window. We don’t even know how on earth we’ve been so blessed to have these kids who have taught us so much and loved us …even in all our broken parenting.  We were pretty sure they’d need on-going therapy and have given blanket apologies to hopefully cover a multitude of  sins.   That being said, since God’s grace is much, much greater than our sins –our kids turned out AWESOME!  Yes, there have been days of wondering how we’d get through diapers, discipline, and dating and we’ve experienced that anxiety of “are they going to make it” through their own personal stories of self-harm, eating disorder, depression and anxiety, and spiritual battles of all kinds …but God is faithful friends!  He has brought them through and He will continue to bring them through.  Of this I am SURE! 11952928_10156069982010249_7202181321764335701_o

Today I’m literally bubbling over with joy to introduce you to our daughter, Carrye Burr!   She’s been wrestling with God and He has spoken  His identity over her.  She’s stepping out in the gift He’s given her to write  and speak from a place of honest, real, and funny and  you can find her over at lesstobemore.org !  I love this girl of mine and want you to know her as well.  She speaks truth.  She lives truth.  She’s honest in her imperfect, sometimes limping, walk with Jesus.  She walks through being a wife, a mother to 3 (two by birth-one by adoption), and Type 1 Diabetes. Don’t get me started …I’ll cry all over this! 🙂 She teaches me so much and I’m humbled to be called “her mom”.  I love her dearly and welcome her to A Life-Giving Moment as my Guest Post today.  Meet our daughter and the author …Carrye Burr !

Two Lies and the Truth

By Carrye Burr (Less To Be More)

Lies don’t get us where we need to go.  Lies are by definition false- and when we follow things that are false, we end up disillusioned, at empty destinations.  Lies don’t always look bad- they promise us the very thing we want most, but they never follow through. It’s kind of like we’re looking out the airplane window wondering why we’re staring, bleary eyed, at miles of white in snowy New England when the travel agent promised us the paradise of beaches in Hawaii…

the promise …ben-hawaii-blogthe reality …snowy pic from carrye's blog
It’s time to get a new travel agent.See, we have an enemy who is called the “Father of lies” (John 8:44).  His language is lies, and his mission is to send us disillusioned to empty destinations.  He wants to send us to places of death, destruction and desolation (John 10:10).
Because he knows that Jesus is the “Truth” and that the “truth will set you free”  (John 8:32).  Because He knows that His power has been overcome by the death and resurrection of Christ, and that if we follow Truth he can’t have us- he can’t ruin what we’ve been made for.We need to trade in for the Travel Agent of Truth…

My kids tease me sometimes that my definition of a situation going well is often described as, "It was 'life-giving' " -- meaning, it may have had some conflicts or uneasy moments or stress but all in all , something about it breathed life into the situation and the people involved...something of the heart was moved in a good direction. I'm all about LIFE ... life with my husband, life with 4 adult children, their spouses and 8 grandchildren (to date, that is :), life in our home and life in a wild adventure we tend to label "ministry". In reality , all of these categories mesh together to make up the "organic me". Relational , redeeming and restoring are some of my favorite words and they give life to my soul as I walk it all out with Jesus Christ, the Giver of all life. Profile Photo by: Melody Martin

    YAY! love it! <3

  2. Matthew Perri

    Poem – What is love?

    Two men came to Jesus
    With different motivations.
They asked Him the same question
    Relevant to all the nations:

    Which is the Most Important?
    The answer was the same.
    Jesus did not manipulate
He was not there to play a game.

“Love the Lord your God” said Jesus
as He quoted from The Law –
    to fulfill and not abolish
was His purpose, full of awe.

Jesus did not make all Scripture
    Into one new great commandment.
He summarized The Law and Prophets
“First and Greatest” and “The Second.”

The Love of God is higher
Than the love of any man.
Receive from God, give back to God-
Then to others, that’s His plan.

The Love of God involves much more
Than simply “love your fellow man.”
Worship, trust, and pray to God,
and obey Him – that’s His plan

To worship and pray to neighbors,
    Whoever they may be,
Or trust and obey our enemies
    Would be idolatry.

The love of God is first and greatest,
And the love of man is second.
“All we need is love” are words
of dead Beetles on the pavement.

“The entire law is summed up in a single command”
are not the words of Jesus our Salvation.
It’s false teaching of Paul the Pharisee
    an “accuser of our brethren.”

“Love” without God is Satan’s word through Paul
in his chapter to the Corinthians.
“I will show you the most excellent way”
is the road to eternal perdition.

Where is God in Paul’s chapter on love?
Nowhere in view of the eye.
Paul sings about himself like a Mexican Mariachi
    “I, I, I, I.”

Jesus is The Most Excellent Way
Not the words of a Pharisee.
The words of Jesus are very clear.
Jesus said, “You must follow ME.”

Thank you for sharing Matthew… and with the Apostle Paul, “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ…”(Galatians 6:14) Jesus truly is “the Most Excellent Way”…

Go for it! Leave a comment. :-)
