Seeking Peace ~ Sharing Peace {Meditations on the 4th Sunday of Advent}

“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

Luke 2:14  (NKJV)

It’s the angel choir singing with all their might …”Glory to God in the highest …Peace, goodwill toward men.”  We sing with them on this fourth Sunday of Advent.  The Angel’s candle flames the  message bringing joy to all the world.

He’s here!  The One you’ve been waiting for.  He finally made His appearance!  Do you see Him?  Can you find Him?

He never seems to appear in the likely places of honor with pomp and circumstance.  It’s in the low spots and the poor places He feels most at home.  With USGOD with us.  EMMANUEL.

And the angels knew.  They knew the significance of this moment and they couldn’t hold it in.  They had been waiting for a long time to belt out this chorus.  On earth.  For us.  The waiting was over.

Heaven had pierced through to Earth and we would never be the same.

” …O God, enthroned above the cherubim,
display your radiant glory…

Show us your mighty power.
Come to rescue us!

Turn us again to yourself, O God.
Make your face shine down upon us.
Only then will we be saved.”

from Psalm 80:1-3 (NLT)

We desperately needed the Savior but He desperately wanted us.  His glory came down to shine on us so that we would never be in the dark again.  His Light would fill every crack and crevice so we could have the glow of His presence.  In USFOR us.

But Light is never meant to be held in seclusion.  Light is always meant to spread and light up the spaces around us.

“Our mission isn’t to accomplish more, but to allow more of God to be reflected in us.  Only then can He use us to powerfully illuminate our generation and change the world.”

Our purpose in life is to bring glory to God but the result of that should be seen in peace, goodwill toward others.   Reflect the Light of the Jesus.  Radiate that Light to others.

And just like Jesus, that can only accomplished by being with others.  Life in communion and community.  Joining hands with those of a different color and background and culture.  Peace in our hearts flowing over to peace in our homes.  Peace in our neighborhoods.  Peace in our workplace.  Peace in our grocery stores.  Peace on earth…

Goodwill toward men…

Pray with others.  Walk with others.  Sit with others.  Worship with others.  Weep with others.  Laugh with others.  Seek peace.  Share peace.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:16 (NIV)

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Romans 15:13 (NIV)

Joy Waters Martin

My kids tease me sometimes that my definition of a situation going well is often described as, "It was 'life-giving' " -- meaning, it may have had some conflicts or uneasy moments or stress but all in all , something about it breathed life into the situation and the people involved...something of the heart was moved in a good direction. I'm all about LIFE ... life with my husband, life with 4 adult children, their spouses and 8 grandchildren (to date, that is :), life in our home and life in a wild adventure we tend to label "ministry". In reality , all of these categories mesh together to make up the "organic me". Relational , redeeming and restoring are some of my favorite words and they give life to my soul as I walk it all out with Jesus Christ, the Giver of all life. Profile Photo by: Melody Martin
